‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: A tale of timelines

tvd -Based on what we are hearing right now, the upcoming season 7 premiere of “The Vampire Diaries” is going to cover a heck of a lot of ground. Not only are we going to spend some time hanging out in the future, but we’re also going to see more of what got us to where we were back when season 6 came to a close. The show’s got a complicated agenda, and watching it all play out will be one of the better gifts that we get in the early going.

In some ways, executive producer Julie Plec’s tease on the subject of time jumps to Entertainment Weekly is confusing, and yet there is also a part of it that makes something close to perfect sense. Take a look:

“We’re actually picking up all over the place … We’re picking up a little bit in the future, we’re picking up a lot in the future, we’re doing a little bit of a time shuffle as we launch into the season. One timeline is set very much in the future and the other timeline will catch us up to the events of the final scene of last season.”

By the time we make it even a few episodes into season 7, we imagine that the show may commit a little bit more to an individual timeline. After all, this show is not “Arrow,” and we have a hard time thinking that they will commit long-term to different timelines and character developments within them (though it does seem interesting for experimental purposes).
