NBC’s ‘The Voice’ uses Blake Shelton, Pharrell for Emmy campagin

VoiceThe Outstanding Reality Competition series category is admittedly one for the Emmy Awards that we don’t necessarily see a whole lot of hard campaigning for, and for the most part there is one very simple reason for that: “The Amazing Race” always wins. The voters for the Emmys are a strange group when it comes to reality; we don’t know if they are set in their ways, or if they just like voting for the same thing every year. “The Amazing Race” is one of our favorite all-time shows, but even we feel like it hasn’t deserved it some of the times in which it has won.

It is the predictability here that makes us glad that NBC is at least trying to shake things up with “The Voice,” releasing a cheeky new video (via The Hollywood Reporter) featuring Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams trying to lobby voters. Blake does some of his signature Adam Levine humor, and then also lobby for other trophies to go along with the one mentioned earlier. (“The Voice” is up in total for six different awards.)

Do we really think that the show has a shot? At this point, it feels almost silly to rule it out as a contender. It has a following, and it does create some good drama and humor over the course of the season.

If there is one thing going against “The Voice” and its odds to actually snag a trophy in the end, it is something that has really haunted the show for some time: Not having many successful winners. Sure, this doesn’t always directly impact the enjoyment throughout the season, but at the same time we are somewhat worried that a lack of a notable winner looking back makes the journey less memorable.
