‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: How Ian Somerhalder’s Damon will move forward

Season 7 of “The Vampire Diaries” is at this point clearly going to be largely about the Salvatores. Stefan may have a new romance in his life courtesy of Caroline, and in some ways we could see him struggling with the notion of happiness. He has every right to smile given all that he has went through, but at the same time we could see him wrestling with some guilt over feeling too good about his present place in life. After all, Damon’s love of his life Elena is trapped from him until Bonnie leaves this earth, and since it doesn’t appear like he is going to be killing her anytime soon, he better prepare to be patient.

For all of those concerned that Damon will hook up with someone else soon, don’t be. Based on what Caroline Dries told TV Guide recently, the story about the new season will be a little more along the lines of trying to figure out whether or not Damon can find his old self in the midst of all that has transpired:

“He is not ready to hook up; let’s be clear about that! He is drinking and having a wild time, but he is wildly affected by the loss of Elena. He’s never going to not be about Elena, so this first chapter is life after Elena. He’s trying to struggle with, how do I do right by Elena and still be myself?”

Dries also commented that Elena is never going to be completely forgotten on the show; specifically, it sounds like the writers have figured out a way to make her feel involved without actually have Nina Dobrev on the show. We have no idea what this means, but we’re very interested in finding out…
