‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 could cross over with ‘Chicago Fire,’ ‘Chicago PD,’ and ‘Chicago Med’

Law & Order: SVU logoIf Dick Wolf has his way, it is very well possible that “Law & Order: SVU” could in some way go on an entire tour of Chicago.

While at the NBC panel at the TCA Summer Press Tour, the prolific executive producer made it clear that come February, there is an epic four-way crossover event between the Mariska Hargitay series and its three other shows: “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD,” and “Chicago Med.” This is, in a word, daunting. There are few other series that have tried something with this sort of ambition behind it, and there is a genuinely good reason for that. It’s difficult. This is a huge trial when it comes to writing, and also figuring out a way in which things can work out logistically for the actors’ schedules.

Of course, our biggest question is just how many ways Wolf can think of to have Benson and some of those characters at a hospital in Chicago, or working with a local fire station. The “SVU” connection is the most difficult one to make of the bunch, and it is really not even close.

Will there being other crossovers throughout the season? Probably, but it won’t be on the same grand level. Wolf stressed that these sort of events really need to be planned out for the shows, and the producers do not want them to suddenly become commonplace. We’ll probably see some movement between the Chicago shows, but mostly due to character relationships.
