’24’ season 10 being worked on; Kiefer Sutherland not returning

FoxWe don’t necessarily know how to feel about this at the moment. While at the TCA Summer Press Tour today, Fox co-programming head Gary Newman made it very clear that there is a new version of the legendary series “24” in development, with Evan Katz and Manny Coto working on it with supervision from longtime show executive producer Howard Gordon.

So what’s the bad news here? It is as simple as the fact that based on what Newman said, Kiefer Sutherland has no real interest in returning as Jack Bauer:

“Obviously we would love to have Kiefer and we went to him first … It isn’t something he wants to do at this point. Honestly I don’t know whether we’ll see any old characters or not. It would not surprise me if it’s a total reset in terms of the characters.”

We’re not sure if a “24” with an all-new cast is really still “24” at all, since so much of that show was based around Jack and the terrible days of his life. We also did think for a while after “Live Another Day” that maybe we would get an entire show revolving around Kate Morgan, but Yvonne Strahovski is now working on something over at Amazon. There was at least some talk about trying to get Kiefer in the past, but we really cannot blame him if he just decided that he really does not want to do much more of this series anymore. The guy had a pretty great run while it lasted, and was known as one of TV’s biggest action stars.

What do you think: Would a “24” without Kiefer or any original cast members work at all? Let us know by voting in the poll below! Also, you can sign up here in the event you want to get some other TV news on everything we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Fox.)
