Ratings: ‘Bachelor in Paradise 2’ improves; ‘After Paradise’ weak; ‘The Whispers’ falls

BP -Some of the ratings are in now for Monday night’s TV lineup, and it certainly feels fair at the moment to call it a mixed bag.

Let’s start with the good news here for ABC: “Bachelor in Paradise” should not feel too terrible right now. With a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, this is an improvement from the first episode airing on the Sunday. Granted, the 0.8 for the “After Paradise” show makes it fairly clear that most everyone seems like they could care well about it. This rating also in turn hurt “The Whispers,” which fell to a new low in the 0.7 rating.

We don’t have too much faith in the long-term viability of the “After Paradise” show, mostly because this was just for the first episode and it was pretty negatively received. There was no real focus, the tone of the show was somewhat off from what the franchise is, and there were way too many guests. However, we feel like “Bachelor in Paradise” itself probably is not going anywhere for a while. The show cannot be that expensive to make beyond just paying the contestants and crew to be there, plus getting the location pinned down. Also, what else is ABC going to really be putting in that spot?

The fate for “The Whispers” has to us been relatively clear ever since the contracts for some of the cast were not picked up earlier this summer. With many people potentially exiting and with the numbers being what they are, ABC will probably come up with a different summer show.
