‘Poldark’ season 2: Premiere date speculation and more for Aidan Turner series
“Poldark” is the sort of show that is fairly easy to root for. It’s a plucky British import with an up-and-coming lead in Aidan Turner, and with “Downton Abbey” ending after the upcoming season, isn’t the timing right for us to have a new addictive TV series to get into? We certainly feel like the answer here is “yes.”
The good news for PBS viewers is that there is absolutely zero reason to have any fear over the future of the show this summer. It was announced earlier this year that the BBC has ordered another season, and the American network is inclined to keep this going. The reviews are for the most part strong, and there is much more story to tell in Cornwall with Ross, Demelza, and the rest of the cast.
So when will a second season premiere? Signs point once again to the summer. While it airs in the United Kingdom in the spring, PBS tends not to air things simultaneously that first come on across the pond. There are rights issues that go with that, but also the network here has to follow their own best interests. Competing against other rivals during the May sweeps is not ideal. The summer allows “Poldark” to have a slightly better opportunity to shine.
Let’s just hope now that there is a lot more good storytelling to come here, and the show lasts however long the producers feel necessarily. British programming tends to have an overall shorter shelf life, so we would suggest to most people to enjoy “Poldark” while it is around for now.
