‘Masters of Sex’ season 3, episode 4 preview: One awkward autograph signing

Who gets credit for Bill and Virginia’s research? That is something that will probably continue to take center stage on “Masters of Sex” throughout the third season, and the sneak peek below is really one such example of it.

In this preview, Dan Logan (Josh Charles) arrives with some of his research team to further along his work with Masters and Johnson, and one woman in particular is eager to get an autograph of the pair’s book … from Bill. She doesn’t seem to give Virginia much credit at all, despite Dan hyping her own. This leads in turn to Johnson calling the group Dan’s “backup singers” at the end of the scene. It’s a funny moment, but it is an indication right now of her struggle. She doesn’t have the same credentials as her partner, and while she is equal in the work, she struggles to be taken seriously.

This sneak peek is of course also an indication of the surge in star power for these characters now, given that their work has started to actually speak to many young people of the time. We are eventually going to make it to the end of the season, and we’ll have to see what sort of place they are in then when it comes to success.

Also, don’t expect Charles to be going anywhere in the near future. Dan is going to have a very important role, and he could potentially drive a wedge between Masters and Johnson if he keeps up some of his compliments. We know that Bill has a tendency to be a jealousy guy.
