‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Contestants cut between auditions, bootcamp

X Factor -If you have followed “The X Factor” or really any reality competition at all over the past several years, you really cannot be too surprised by what is being reported today. After all, this is something we have admittedly heard so many times before that we’re shocked that anyone is surprised by it now.

According to a new OK! Magazine story, contestants who were given four “yes” votes by the judges (Rita Ora, Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini, and Simon Cowell) have received emails week after the fact saying that they can no longer be guaranteed spots in bootcamp, and some have been eliminated before even getting a chance to appear. There are some that claim that these last-minute emails in some cases cost them money, and others just are angry over the typical reality TV anguish.

Does this stink royally? Definitely, but the reason we are not surprised by these reports is simple: Judges sometimes don’t know how to say no. Let’s say you are a likable contestant with maybe a sad story. It’s going to be hard to tell you “no” to your face. Meanwhile, it’s also possible that a singer of a certain style is sent through, only for a better singer of the same variety to be found the very next day. There are so many factors.

The biggest thing that any reality TV show contestant should be aware of is that like reality, it’s not fair. If you are going to take part, you have to go in with the expectation that at some point, you may end up feeling like you were screwed over. There’s only one winner and thousands of hopefuls. The odds are not in your favor.
