‘True Detective’ season 2, episode 6 preview: What’s next for Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, cast

HBO logoThis past episode of “True Detective” is to us really the first time we really started to see this show once again become what we know that it can be: An intense, intelligent thrilled that causes you to think about the human condition. It is also a series with genuine consequences. On another network crime show, being involved in a massive shootout like we saw in episode 4 would be yet another day at the office. Everyone would go back to work the next day, acting as though almost nothing had ever happened in the first place.

On this show? Everyone was in new jobs, and have now only started to work their way back into the search for Ben Caspere’s killer and the vast conspiracy around him. The showdown between Ray Velcoro and Frank Semyon at the start of this episode has the potential to be one of the best scenes between Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell’s characters that we have had a chance to see so far. If nothing else, this marks an opportunity to see how they interact with one another and handle the swirling danger surrounding them. Ray has motive to go after Frank, but there is value also in keeping him around for information or even bait.

Now, we turn to Ani. What is she seeking through her actions? She is probably the best overall cop of any of our four main characters, at least in that she is willing to put it all on the line. Based on the position that she is entering with this part, though, there are questions as to whether or not this risk is worth it.

There are answers that we should have throughout the days ahead. Be on the lookout for our review tomorrow night.
