ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5: New promo plays up Olivia, Fitz together (finally)

You have waited for it since the very beginning of “Scandal,” and we are starting to get the sense now that executive producer Shonda Rhimes is ready to give many of the people out there precisely what they want: Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald Grant together!

So, what happens now? That is the question asked in the promo below, and we are left to wonder that, as well, given that there is no new footage included in there. Sometimes that can be a major bummer since you obviously want some more teases on a show, but in this particular case there is still something to be gleamed from this. It is important that we get a reminder that Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn’s characters are together. Not only that, but this feels almost like a statement that they may actually make a better go at a relationship in the fifth season. Mellie seems to be somewhat out of the picture for Fitz, and with him already re-elected, there is no longer such an incentive in keeping it secret.

Still, there are problems. Mellie is probably not going to disappear off the face of the earth given her own political ambitions, and Fitz being with someone he was once “rumored” to be with in the press is problematic. He has to figure out whether or not he wants this to go public, and how he wants to spin it if it does.

There are some other changes happening now in Fitz’s life at the White House; Elizabeth North is seemingly replacing Cyrus, and with Mellie gone comes more than likely a new way of dealing with his family and also the press.
