ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 spoilers: Cornelius Smith Jr. set to be series regular

More scoop -Just in case the cast of “Scandal” was not big enough already, we also have this news to report now: Cornelius Smith Jr. has been added in an official capacity.

This news was first reported over by TVLine, and it surprised us at first glance. This is an actor whose character Marcus Walker has only appeared in a couple of episodes of the show, though to be fair one of them was the stellar “The Lawn Chair” that presented a very powerful take on Ferguson and some similar protests happening across the nation. For those wondering why specifically we are seeing him now, one very good guess is that he could end up becoming a member of Olivia Pope and Associates. We know already that he is a pretty influential guy who has a passion for getting what he wants done, and this is something that Kerry Washington’s character could certainly use.

Also, remember here that OPA has been torn up in many ways over the past season and a half. Harrison is dead, Huck’s status is not entirely clear, and Abby may still be working at the White House. This is a group in need of some new blood to shake things up a little bit.

This is just the latest promotion to happen on “Scandal,” as Portia de Rossi was confirmed to be a series regular not too long after the events of season 4 that found her character Elizabeth North in a great deal of power following what happened to Cyrus.
