‘Hannibal’ season 4 renewal hopes dashed (slightly); Amazon, Netflix both pass

Hannibal -Tough news for all of those hoping to see “Hannibal” making it over to Amazon Prime followings its cancellation by NBC: It’s looking like that is just not going to happen. The not-so-great news was confirmed today in a post on Twitter by executive producer Bryan Fuller.

So why is Amazon passing on the show? According to Deadline, much of it has to do with the wait time that it would take for a fourth season to be made. Fuller is committed next to working on the Starz adaptation of “American Gods,” and apparently the service did not really want out the lengthy period of time it would take for him to finish that for a season, only to then come over to start working with them. This, plus the show’s low ratings, have each been listed as concerns.

We’d say that the news in regards to Netflix is sad, but we never expected there to be much interest there, given that Amazon had the exclusive streaming rights. Now that they have passed on a fourth season, though, maybe this does open the door for some other venues like a Hulu or a Yahoo Screen. We are still holding out hope especially for the latter, mostly because they seemed to enjoy having “Community” as a part of their family and this has a similar devoted following.

There are still some other possibilities out there potentially among networks, as well. We’re not ruling out AMC, FX, WGN America, IFC, or even Starz given Fuller’s established relationship there. Every venue is probably a longshot, but we are not giving up on it yet.
