‘Penny Dreadful’ season 3 spoilers: Series boss on more global feel

At the end of “Penny Dreadful” season 2, we had a story that almost had the feeling of a band breaking up. Ethan was sent away presumably to the United States, John is heading north towards the Arctic, and Sir Malcolm seems to be on his way to Africa. Basically, everyone is going in different directions, and the question for season 3 becomes how you figure out a way to bring these characters back together … provided that it is your goal at all to do so.

At this given point in time, of course series boss John Logan is not saying too much one way or another, other than that we are presumably going to see more of the show’s fictional world. Speaking towards The Hollywood Reporter, he had the following to say about the series’ current trajectory:

“Season three is a real change of pace for us, which is good. We can get out of the alleys and cobblestone bars of Victorian London and see a bit more of the world. Essentially there’s a pull bringing these characters together and it’s supernatural, partly romantic, partly shared destiny.”

There are going to be many chances during season 3 hopefully to meet new people as a result of this shift in setting, and we feel like that for the most part is exciting. While Evelyn and some of the witches were fascinating in their own right, bringing in a more international influence when it comes to mythology may only help the show feel creepier and more well-rounded.
