‘Shark Tank’ revisited: Scholly, luminAID, Keen Home smart vent, Taaluma Totes, and Bottle Breacher
Tonight, “Shark Tank” will be airing a repeat of a late February episode right before we get to the Independence Day holiday, and in all honesty we have to say going into this that it probably is not the most memorable episode of the entire season. Were there some quality products? Sure, but in doing our research for updating this article, it took us a minute or two to really remember just how all of these fared in the tank.
The update segment tonight is on Bottle Breacher, which is a company that we have admittedly underestimated in a pretty enormous way over time. We had no way of knowing that they were going to become anywhere near as big of a brand as they have, but they’ve really shown up since their first appearance on TV.
Keen Home smart vent – Very cool product, mostly in that every person has rooms in their home that heat to different temperatures, and this is a way to make the process even more efficient for some out there. Still, this is something that you have to wait for since right now they are taking pre-orders for late summer / early fall, and now is the time that you’d probably want it to most. That is a big downside to buying at this point.
luminAID – While it does take a lot of sunlight to recharge it (think 7-10 hours), this is as good as a portable light as you’re going to find for the price point. We really have no use for it unless we were just bracing for a power outage, but for just about everyone else, we certainly think of this as an interesting concept that still has our interest after the show.
Taaluma Totes – This is a good product in that it’s eye-catching, effective, and it also is a part of a program that helps to support people who are really looking for a chance to change their lives in developing countries. With that being said, we do feel still like this is a somewhat complicated business model, and one that is not particularly as easy to invest in as others. We are glad that they are still going strong, but we are not shocked they left without a deal.
Scholly – We know that apps are sometimes difficult to monetize, but just in focusing on the business model alone here, we really dig Scholly. It provides a valuable product to people looking for scholarships, and the price is very affordable for almost everyone. It’s not going to get you a scholarship alone, but this serves as a really nice starter kit.
