‘I Can Do That’ renewed by NBC for season 2 after success with Joe Jonas, Nicole Scherzinger, others
While we did not have many expectations for NBC’s summer show “I Can Do That,” this turned out to be one of the summer’s surprise hits. Following “America’s Got Talent,” a healthy amount of viewers watched to see whether or not some popular celebrities could do a variety of other talents. The roster of season 1 included Cheryl Burke, Joe Jonas, Ciara, Jeff Dye, Alan Ritchson and Nicole Scherzinger, with Jonas and Burke fresh off of “Dancing with the Stars” being the biggest sells. Scherzinger, a former member of the Pussycat Dolls and an “X Factor” judge, ended up winning at the end of the first season. Ironically, she also won “Dancing with the Stars” years ago.
In a statement, NBC’s alternative programming head Paul Telegdy had the following message to pass along:
“This series thrust our celebrities out of their comfort zones and into exciting, unpredictable situations and they rose to the occasion each week … We are thrilled to bring new challenges and up the ante for season two.”
The appeal for celebrities to do this show seems, at least from our vantage point, to be fairly obvious. They get to show off unique talents and other sides of themselves, and at the same time the show does not eliminate at any point along the way. Therefore, you are guaranteed at least several weeks on board the season without being completely humiliated along the way.
Now, they just have to find a new cast, and we do not assume that will be hard. With “Celebrity Apprentice” done for now, there should be at least a few openings in this department moving towards the future.
