‘Big Brother 17’ review: Phil Keoghan’s ‘BB Takeover’ and much more
Tonight, “Big Brother 17” continued the drama and the crazy by bringing in a second group of houseguests, the predictable “surprise” of Jeff and Jackie who were spoiled on the live feeds minutes before the show, and also a reminder that Johnny Mac the Rock Star Dentist looks a little like Mike Boogie / slightly older Spencer Bledsoe. We’ve got for the most part a good cast, and tonight’s episode proved that while we don’t often love twists, we do love the game.
Phil’s arrival – Phil Keoghan was the first BB Takeover guest, and he used the platform to introduce Jeff and Jackie to the game! We know them well already from “The Amazing Race,” though we still really wish that we had Hayley and Blair in their instead for the laughs. Jackie is poised to be better entertainment for the most part this season that Jeff.
The Head of Household Competition – This one was to us really fun, given that it was a combination of endurance, space aliens, and green goop. Ultimately, this came down to a showdown between Jackie and Jason, who we feel like is really not interested in playing under the radar at all. He’s won the first HoH, and he also is a guy who clearly loves the sound of his own voice. He may be safe for now, but who knows who long that will last?
Tonight’s MVP to us with Vanessa, mostly because she figured out a way to put herself out there in sitting out the competition, but still did so quietly. The poker player is keeping her cards close to vest, and she is probably not going to be an early target. Of course, there is a twist coming that comes as a result of her sitting out, and it could change things.
we’re not going to say that this was anywhere near as electric of an episode, but we do for the most part like the cast, and we hope now with some of the twist business out of the way that we can start to actually get to know the people. Granted, we still have to figure out what will happen to Da’Vonne and Vanessa, and the Twin Twist will at least be revealed to us on Thursday.
