‘The Muppets’ heading to San Diego Comic-Con ahead of new series

Muppets -How excited are we to see the Muppets on TV again this fall? We’re not even really sure that we can come up with the proper words for it! We’ve seen the trailer a few times for the upcoming ABC revival, and we love it more just about every time. It’s brilliantly self-referential, and it understands that it needs to appeal both to parents and children alike. Also, how can you argue against the team of Bill Prady and Bob Kushell, who have worked on some of the greatest shows out there? (Bill is one of the masterminds behind “The Big Bang Theory,” while Kushell did great work on “3rd Rock from the Sun.”)

Today, the news is out there that “The Muppets” is coming to San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 11, and the panel will take place from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Pacific time in Room 6A. Joining Prady and Kushell at the panel will be director Randall Einhorn (who has directed other “documentary” shows like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation”) and executive producer / voice actor Bill Barretta (Pepe, Rowlf). There will be some other to-be-announced performers in attendance.

We know that curiosity surrounding the new series is high, and this is a chance for the characters to be in a venue in which we feel they belong. However, at the same time this show is somewhat enigmatic in regards to how it will operate in the fall. What we’ve seen is part of a presentation, which is not exactly a traditional pilot; while you know these characters, we don’t quite know them in this setting. How it turns out weekly is a little bit of a mystery.

Ultimately, it’s hard to be anything other than stoked still to see this panel, and the premiere of the show itself. “Muppet Christmas Carol” is one of our favorite films of all time, and the classic “Muppet Show” has a warm place in our heart.
