‘The X Factor’ UK: Simon Cowell describes pivotal year

X Factor News -Stop us when this one sounds familiar: Simon Cowell really wants to stress how important the upcoming season of “The X Factor” is to the future of the franchise. If you are feeling like this is something you have seen many times before in the press, it is because it is. The show’s judge / executive producer consistently touts how important a given year of the show is for him, and there are a variety of reasons for this. Sometimes, he just wants to inject a little more hype, or sometimes he finds himself feeling somewhat threatened by the presence of rival “Strictly Come Dancing” on the air.

This year, though, there are changes. Olly Murs and Caroline Flack are replacing Dermot O’Leary as the show’s hosts, and to go along with that we have Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora replacing on the judging panel the likes of Mel B and Louis Walsh. It’s a very new lineup, and this is why Cowell may be making some of the comments that he is to the Daily Star:

“It does feel like make or break this year but I feel like every year is make or break, to be honest … There were certain years when certain people won and it was like ‘Oh Christ’.”

So far, we haven’t heard enough from winner Ben Haenow to know whether or not Cowell feels that way about him. He’s at least got a shot to be current, but it is really difficult for any winner these days given the amount of competition that is out there.
