‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ spoilers: No musical numbers despite Lady Gaga casting; Jessica Lange’s future

American Horror Story -American Horror Story: Hotel” may feature a wide variety of freaky circumstances, but it appears as though there is one thing that you are for sure not going to see: Musical numbers. Speaking per Deadline, co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that despite having a superstar like Lady Gaga on board, the show is drifting far from the more-musical “Freak Show” and delivering something different. He says that it is “more horror-based,” and one of the reasons why Gaga was so attracted to the part is because she has never done anything quite like it before.

Also during this interview, Murphy made something else very clear when it comes to departing star Jessica Lange. While she is not going to be a star of “Hotel,” that does not rule her out from returning to the franchise at some point down the line:

“Well, all I can say about that never say never with Jessica. She and I are doing something else right now. I’m producing a production of A Long Day’s Journey Into Night, that is one of her dream roles. She’s done it before and she wanted to do it again and I got the rights for her, we’re going to do that on Broadway. So we’re working again together, and I think if I went to Jessica and I had an amazing role, I think she would do it. I think she wanted some time off, but Jessica is somebody that is always about the role, in every season on this show.”

We feel like “Hotel” is well-served to bring something new to the table, and if Lange needed a break or just simply wanted to move on, both are fine. Bring her back if she decides that she wants to come back. One of the luxuries of this franchise is that it really does open the door to a pretty wide array of exciting possibilities.
