‘Big Brother Canada 3’ exclusive: Willow MacDonald on sticking with Sarah, the Chop Shop’s demise

Willow -While Willow MacDonald did not win “Big Brother Canada 3,” we have zero regrets about picking her to take home the title. She was the victim of a triple-eviction twist, and we still feel ultimately like she had a really good shot at being at the end of the game had that not happened. She was personable, she was social, and we do think she had potential to win competitions if she really didn’t during the game.

Also, Willow gives very good exit interviews. In our last chat with her this season, we get more of her take on what happened with her stunning eviction, why she still wanted to take Sarah to the end even if it lowered her odds of winning, and some of her other general thoughts on a crazy year of television.

CarterMatt – So now that you’ve had some time to think about it, how are you feeling now about the game that you played?

Willow MacDonald – Obviously, how I was evicted and how I went out was devastating. I just didn’t know what happened. I literally was like ‘was this an accident, did they read something wrong?’ I really felt like I set myself up so perfectly to get to the final three. I hope that doesn’t sound cocky, but no one was coming for me, or looking at me as someone to put up.

So when I went to jury I was devastated. That was my life and I felt like it was such a big letdown. I wanted to win competitions! I was looking on what I didn’t do and I was ripping on everything, questioning Sarah and I’s relationship and questioning loyalties. I wasn’t able to get closure in jury at first because Sarah was still in there and nobody was giving me the right answers. Then we started talking, and it was good. Jury is awesome because you can let everything go, rip on each other’s games, analyze it, and to have everyone tell me ‘nobody was coming after you’ … it was good to hear that. It was good to hear something right.

But then, after Bruno came there was all that Sarah drama. I was reliving it every week. I’ve just been trying to put all the pieces together. I’m getting there, but for now it’s all good. No regrets. You can’t prepare for twists; you can only do what you are capable of. I tried to play a good social game since I couldn’t win a comp, and at least I made it to where I did because I worked so hard to get on the show and you have to view everything as a blessing.

I’m doing good not, I’ll probably talk to Sarah after this, and we’re going to be great. She made some mistakes, I made some mistakes, everybody made some mistakes. It was a great season.

We’ve talked a lot about Sarah, but what surprised you the most about Godfrey over the last little while?

I knew that guy was doing an amazing game. The first thing he did when he came out of the house was say ‘Willow, I’m the reason that you went home.’ I was like ‘Godfrey!’ I respect him. He saw what I was trying to do, and it’s hard to actually do what I was trying to do. He knew that it would be to his advantage to get me out. He got Sarah to vote me out. That is huge! He was able to flip that easily. He was willing to take advantage of opportunities. He called out a showmance! He screamed at them, and they still kept him. I loved Godfrey’s game, but I felt like Sarah’s speech was better than his and I really couldn’t see his game and what he did.

And Sarah really played the game. As a fan I just love how she manipulated and won comps when she needed to and was an underdog. She was amazing! I can’t wait to watch this season!

We talk about comps, but is it really a good thing to win so many? You don’t want to win so many you become a target. Was this on your mind? Did you throw many comps early on?

When I was in jury everyone was like ‘Willow, you did a good job throwing these comps.’ But I actually threw none of them! I tried in all of them. [However,] because my butt was never really on the line, I was never in danger, I didn’t go all out. I know that if I [had that mindset during the triple eviction], I would have turned it up 170%. I was trying, I wasn’t purposefully throwing, but there were ones where I was like ‘I drop here, it’s okay.’ I wanted to make Jillian and Emmett proud, I wanted to make Nova Scotia proud, and I like winning! And I wanted to make big moves in the house.

Let’s talk a little bit about hypotheticals here. Had you and Sarah made it really far in the game, would you have taken her to the end?

Yes. Absolutely. I was definitely going to take her, and that may have been one of my downfalls. I like being loyal. I like being truthful. It felt good to have someone in there, and I felt okay losing to her in there because she played such an amazing game in there. I was just blown away by how smart she was and good she was at changing targets and getting into people’s minds. I just felt like If I bring her and I lose, I lose, and if I win, I’ll feel even greater because I beat out Sarah. I was 100% loyal, and I would have brought her.

Let’s talk Chop Shop. Was the downfall of that good for your game, or do you think you would have made it further with them?

Once we saw Graig’s true colors during the first few days, I immediately wondered if I made a big mistake aligning myself with this guy. But, I still wanted to be loyal and wanted to have one alliance. Once I saw what was going on and that Zach wasn’t going to be loyal, he was trying to jump ship … When Sindy came back in the house and blew the Chop Shop up, that was the best-case scenario. I’m still in with them, but now I’m a free agent! That’s when I went in with Sarah and I took a shot. It was kind of a wake-up call; if not, I would have probably been voted out even earlier because I was going to go out before any of them.
