‘Orange Is the New Black’ season 3: Creator on current binge-watching craze

OITNB -Is the creator of “Orange Is the New Black” really invested completely in the binge-watching format that has taken Netflix by storm? The answer to that may end up surprising you, given that you would think almost that everyone invested into the format would have the same exact opinion. This is also a show that is one of the most popular out of any that the streaming show offers, which makes it somewhat of the poster child for streaming TV … regardless of if anyone involved in it wants that status. All we can say is that Jenji Kohan tells The Hollywood Reporter there is a certain amount of the format that does make it difficult to really gauge how people are thinking and feeling about her show on a week-to-week basis:

“I miss having people on the same page … I do miss being able to go online and have the conversation the day after. But it’s kind of a waste of time to lament that because that’s not the way our show comes.”

Do we agree with her? In many ways, yes. While we enjoy being able to sit back and watch as many episodes of a show like “Arrested Development” or “House of Cards” that we want, it is somewhat difficult at the same time to have a discussion about it. One of the reasons for the rise in television was because of how it worked as a social medium; everyone watched a show at the same time, then talked about it the next day.

Of course, the thing to remember here is that even if a show like “Orange Is the New Black” was offering up new episodes on a weekly basis, people still do have the option to watch whenever they want. The hope would just be that there would at least be the majority of diehard fans at the same point in the show at the same time.
