‘Big Brother Canada 3’ live feed spoilers: Farewell feeds, and hopes for the future

BB -Today is a sad one for all fans of “Big Brother Canada,” and there is a pretty simple reason for that: Saturday is the last one for the live feeds. It’s been a fun past couple of months, and believe us when we saw that we’ve enjoyed a ton of it, from Godfrey’s stories to watching late-night strategy talks and people being forced to spend every waking second in a costume.

We’re still grateful that Global allows these to exist, and to occasionally give us such an interesting look into the lives and minds of ordinary Canadians thrown into an insane situation. Reality TV is all about social experimentation, and this show proves that.

However, these feeds in particular still have some work to do if they want to reach their full potential. With that, we’ve compiled a list of what we believe are some necessarily changes that could be made to make these feeds next-level and in some ways even better than the ones in the United States. Think of these as separate suggestions, or in some ways even a priority list.

1. Consider a paid model – We wonder why production and the higher-ups at Shaw opted for an advertiser-based model versus a paid one, since we feel like there would be in many ways a better market for it. For one, they could charge Americans for it, and we feel like CBS has proven that there is a customer base out there willing to buy them.

2. Fewer feed blocks – If for some reason the show just does not have any interest in giving us this sort of model (production is different on this show, and live shows are pre-taped), at least consider changing up the way in which feeds are delivered. Why not show the immediate aftermath to Veto rather than us coming in after the challenge has been over for a little while? Why not show us more of the tasks? Obviously, the biggest fiasco of the season was the #bbtv controversy, when fans spent all day voting on different “pilots” only to then have the live feeds blocked for the celebratory party, one of the few times there were some genuine drunken antics in the house.

3. Less censorship – One of the reasons that the show may not consider either of the ideas below is because they want their feeds to be something specific, and a celebration of Canadians may be high on that list. We imagine that “Big Brother USA” recently has influenced that greatly, as these players are reminded at times that “Canada is watching” when conversations start to drift into controversial territory. We never want to see a season of the show become about someone making an idiot of themselves for saying something terrible, but it feels much more like an experiment when the contestants have to be more responsible for their own actions.

4. Updates – Ultimately, we wish both the American and Canadian show were better at giving estimated times on how long feeds are going to be down. While you obviously cannot always give accurate times, you could say, for example, when you know feeds are going to be down for a good chunk of the night.

Of course these are just suggestions; the reality is that “Big Brother Canada” is its own show that operates under its own rules, and it conducts its live feeds in a way that it feels comfortable with when it comes to its brand and its advertisers. It’s not always our favorite way of watching feeds, but if there are some inconveniences that we have to deal with in order to continue having them, then we will not complain too much.
