‘Call the Midwife’ season 4 finale review (PBS): About the Patsy – Delia shocker

Patsy -Tonight, “Call the Midwife” concluded its fourth season on PBS with an episode that was stuffed full of surprises, but the fate of one of the characters in Patsy may have been somewhere near the top of the list. We more than imagined that she would have some sort of closure this season with Delia, but we did not think that it would be anything like this.

In the end, the big shocker is that Delia may no longer be with us after an accident turned into something so much worse. We don’t know why we needed to lose the character, given that she was a part of one of the series’ most interesting storylines. Unfortunately, this seems to be the direction in which the show is heading.

While the finale was clearly a step back for Patsy, it was a step forward to a certain extent for Trixie, who finally learned within the span of this episode that she really needed to get help for her struggles with alcohol. This season really did this character justice; during the Jessica Raine series she was simply the more upbeat member of Nonnatus House, but now we have so many more layers with her than we had before. The same also goes for a guy like Fred, who spent the finale preparing for a wedding despite some surprising opposition.

One last general note to point out here is that it was very nice ultimately to see Miranda Hart back on the show as Chummy, though we hope that this is not some sort of crazy indicator that she is not going to be a big part of the series moving forward.
