‘The Blacklist’ season 3: Where should Megan Boone – James Spader series go from here?

The Blacklist logo any seasonWhile we know that there are some out there who do very much appreciate the second season of “The Blacklist,” we also know that there are some others out there who have felt that this season has been a little bit of a mess. It started with some uneven cases-of-the-week that were a shell of the first season, and it took a long time before Tom Keen even entered the picture again. When he did, he was a torture victim at Liz’s hands. Then, he saved her during a court case? Strange as it may seem, that was the case.

The problem with season 2 is one of focus. While it improved in the later weeks of the season, this story started off as a mess and was frankly all over the place, bouncing from one place and one character to the next.

The show was renewed for a third season early this year, so even with declining ratings, we feel like the future was never really in serious doubt. What we wonder now is what the future will be for the show.

In a sense, we’d like to see the show go back to basics a little, and that involves Megan Boone and James Spader’s character working together, reluctant or otherwise, to take down some of the bad guys. Maybe you separate them further from the rest of the FBI, but the actors’ chemistry is one of the reasons why this show was so popular in the first place.

The challenges for the series are not going to suddenly dissipate. After all, “The Blacklist” will once again air in the fall opposite “Scandal,” and that is competition as stiff as they come.
