‘American Idol XIV’ finale: Ricky Martin, Pitbull, New Kids on the Block, more to perform

American Idol -Wednesday night marks the season finale for “American Idol,” and do you remember when these were thought of as some sort of enormous television event? That feels like a long time ago now, since these at the moment feel much more like events that are miniature concerts. They are no longer ratings smashes, but they do at least still cram a whole lot of people into the span of two hours and potentially more, given that they do have a tendency to run a little bit long.

At the moment, we can confirm that the lineup for tonight features everyone from Chris Brown to Ricky Martin, Pitbull, New Kids on the Block, Janelle Monae, Fall Out Boy, Nile Rodgers, Jamie Foxx, Steven Tyler (performing with Jax), Vance Roy, and a variety of other names from both past and present.

While it may be easy to pile on the show’s declining ratings and say that it is a shell of its former self, we will at least say here that it is still a pretty good venue for artists to appear. Millions of viewers still watch it, and even if a small fraction decide to pick up your album as a response to that, it is a pretty big deal in the end.

Nick Fradiani and Clark Beckham are set to face off tonight, as well. While we personally believe that Clark is the favorite to win even in spite of Nick having a better last performance, the race this season feels closer than in recent years.
