‘The Blacklist’ season 2 finale spoilers: An early season 3 projection

There was at least a tiny bit of welcome scoop about “The Blacklist” and its upcoming season 2 finale Thursday night. Namely here, we are talking about some current plans to deliver something huge and unexpected. Per network programming head Robert Greenblatt, the finale is going to contain an unexpected twist, and it is something that will send the third season in a very new, different direction.

Are we down for seeing this? At this point, sure. As much as we enjoy the Megan Boone – James Spader series at times, one of its biggest struggles has been an identity crisis. At times, it seems to want to be some sort of procedural that would sell well in syndication. However, at other times we feel almost like it wants to be this high-octane serial that tells the same story over the course of several weeks. Maybe this twist will help the show to further pick the side, or at least be more consistent in bridging the two.

The important thing for this show is that it does something to shake things up. Season 2 has struggled at times creatively, and more importantly it has fallen hard in the ratings since moving to Thursdays. It does continue to be a warrior in DVR viewings, so convincing these people to watch live is imperative.
