‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8 finale spoilers: Show boss on relationship-themed finale

The Big Bang TheoryWhen the season finale of “The Big Bang Theory” airs on CBS Thursday night, you could see changes aplenty when it comes to relationships. Sheldon and Amy have to figure out where they stand now that they have known each other for five years, while Leonard and Penny have to address the elephant in the room. (Here’s a clue: This elephant is also happening to be wearing a wedding dress.)

As for Howard and Bernadette, there are always questions, and one of them revolves around the presence of Stuart in their house. Based on what executive producer Steven Molaro tells Entertainment Weekly, the relationship between these two characters will be tested more based on Stuart in the finale than the notion of having children, which is something that has been continually prodded at for some time:

“In the finale, there’s a loose theme of relationships, and where is everything going. Between Bernadette and Wolowitz, the more immediate and bigger question of where is everything going is, how much longer are we going to live in this house with Stuart? I suppose it might mean he’s going to have to live in the back of his comic book store again, but those same thoughts [are] also touching on Koothrappali and Emily. Everyone is confronting all of those issues at the same time.”

In the end, we actually appreciate how the show has managed to give Howard and Bernadette specifically so many different storylines that do not have to with children, mostly for the reason that it would simply be the easiest to go in that direction. Do we want to see them in that direction at some point? Sure, but only if she decides that she likes kids and wants to have some. We don’t want to see the story forced upon her just because that is viewed as the natural “next step” for a married couple.
