‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 3 shocker: Orlando Jones not returning as Frank Irving

Irving -We’re not going to lie: This news hurts. It may not be as bad as it may have felt for Ichabod Crane to be buried alive at the end of “Sleepy Hollow” season 1, but it is close.

According to a report from Variety, the utterly fantastic Orlando Jones (who is also one of our top ten favorite TV tweeters of all time) is not going to be returning as Frank Irving for the show’s third season on Fox. It felt for a while like he was dead on season 2, but he eventually did come back and have an important role in the final episodes. We’d love to get more news understanding the reasoning behind this move. He’s such a great ambassador for the show on social media, so we don’t understand exactly what the logic would be behind not bringing him back. Maybe it is budget-related, or has something to do with all of the tweaks behind the scenes. Mark Goffman is coming in as series regular, and given what happened in the finale, it’s pretty clear that we are losing much of the Crane family drama, as well.

Now, we need to figure out just what the next role for Jones should be:

1. A talk show where he just reads all of his favorite tweets of the week out loud.

2. A buddy-cop show starring him and Misha Collins, where William Shatner comes on as the police chief. (It’s a slight shake-up from our April Fools’ joke “Wonder Twins” remake.)

3. More 7-Up commercials.

4. A sitcom featuring him, Orlando Bloom, and Tony Orlando moving to Orlando, where they try to solve the great mystery that is Florida.
