‘Grey’s Anatomy’ keeps Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey until season 10May 10, 2012 0 comments
No worries, “Grey’s Anatomy” fans — some of your favorite doctors are going to be staying put at Seattle Grace for a little while longer.
In news that was first reported by Deadline, a number of the show’s original cast members — including Ellen Pompeo (Meredith), Patrick Dempsey (Derek), Justin Chambers (Alex), Sandra Oh (Cristina), James Pickens Jr. (Webber), and Chandra Wilson (Dr. Bailey) — have all signed new two-year contracts that could take them to season 10. Is this going to be the last season of the show? We wouldn’t be surprised, since it would give it a chance to not only reach 200 episodes, but end with a round number that allows for some more stories to be told.
The negotiations between the actors and ABC have gone on for the past year, and executive producer Shonda Rhimes had even crafted the entire storyline about the doctors interviewing for other positions just in case someone did end up leaving the show. (Both Pompeo and Dempsey in particular had expressed an interest in doing other things.)
With these new deals in mind, it also means that these characters can be ruled out when it comes to the (spoiler alert!) shocking death in the season finale. There are still a number of other candidates out there (including Callie, Arizona, April, Jackson, and Teddy), but this is one secret that will not be revealed until the final episode is here on May 17.
