‘Gotham’ spoilers: Show boss shares more on Jerome mystery

Gotham -Who exactly is Jerome within the world of “Gotham“? We certainly do not blame you for wondering that question still. We first met the character back in the February sweeps, when he was involved in the murder of his mother within the carnival world. Suspicion arose immediately that he was an early version of the Joker, and there is at least some evidence out there to back that up. For one, the character has a very distinct laugh, and actor Cameron Monaghan bears at least some similarities to the way we’ve seen the character portrayed elsewhere.

So for those of you wondering if we will see more of Jerome throughout the rest of the first season, the simple answer here is … no. Sorry to be a little bit of a wet blanket here. It’s just not happening. Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Bruno Heller confirmed that the character will not be around for awhile, but is going to have a significant role to play throughout the second season.

As for whether or not this is really the right course of action for someone like the Joker, we are admittedly still a little torn for a number of different reasons. One of the biggest ones here is strictly a matter of whether or not it is a great idea to actually know so much about a character whose backstory is notoriously shrouded in mystery. Does it take something away from the character to know that he has a proper first name, or had a past that is actually discernible? It is a very good question.

Ultimately, let’s just hope that the story of the Ogre is enough to satisfy, at least for a little while longer.
