NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Usher, Cee Lo Green, Gwen Stefani to return

The latest -The Voice” seems to be very much intent on honoring its past, or at least its past coaches on the show next week.

Today, it was announced that Usher, Cee Lo Green, and Gwen Stefani are all going to be returning as advisers for the remaining contestants in the competition. This means that almost every former coach (Shakira being the only exception at present) will be around in order to help guide the contestants on the way to hitting the stage again. When it comes to the show alone, these are people who at least know what it takes to give a good performance, and they have all been coaches during this part of the competition. Gwen just had a chance to do it this past fall while Christina Aguilera was on maternity leave.

Admittedly, we are somewhat surprised that the show is bringing Green back, given all of the rumors swirling around the time of his exit. Obviously, though, this shows that he does still have a good relationship with Mark Burnett and the producers; while we felt his final season on the show felt like he was completely apathetic, he had a killer season 2 lineup who we still think were robbed royally by the formatting of the show back then.

Tonight, we’ll have a chance to learn just who will make it to that stage in the competition. This week the show had a panel of producers serving as advisers, which was probably good from the music side of things … even though we could barely understand a single word Mark Ronson said during any of his critiques.
