‘Outlander’ episode 12 preview: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, and ‘Lallybroch’

At the end of tonight’s new episode of “Outlander,” we saw Claire Fraser ultimately end up returning to Jamie. Did she do it out of necessity after learning that she could not return home, or choice? We enjoy the ambiguity of it all very much for now.

All we can say for now is that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters are once again back together, and also heading now towards what is their next destination in Lallybroch. This is Jamie’s ancestral home, and a place where many of his best memories are stored. This is an opportunity for them to potentially avoid the trouble and chaos of Castle Leoch (at least for now) and have something resembling a normal life. Unfortunately for them, we have a hard time thinking that this will last.

The short synopsis courtesy of Starz does not give away a whole lot: “Claire and Jamie are reunited and head to his family home, where old animosities between Jamie and his sister, Jenny, are rekindled.”

What you can probably hope to see in this episode above all else is a chance to see a further history lesson when it comes to who Jamie really is, where he comes from, and how his past will come to influence the present. What is also interesting for him now is how he handles the knowledge that Claire is not from his time. This is a secret that the two of them share together, and while it may bind them closer together, it could create quite a few awkward situations at the same time.
