Is ‘Blue Bloods’ season 5, episode 21 new tonight? What we hope to see in two-part finale

To answer the question, no. There is no new episode of “Blue Bloods” on tonight. Trust us when we say that we’re as bummed out about it as anyone, especially since what we are getting here basically amounts to a hiatus just before the final two episodes of the season. Typically, shows at least get a run of three consecutive hours to close off a year.

However, the one bit of positive buzz we can give you here right now is simply that when the series does in fact return to CBS, it will be doing so with a two-part finale that will hopefully be one for the ages. Gang warfare will be one of the key themes of it, as Danny and Baez in particular are going to have their work cut out for them. Method Man is set to guest star as one of the primary gang members featured, while you can also get ready for a guest spot from Dennis Haysbert, fresh off of his time on “Backstrom.”

It is rather difficult in some ways here to necessarily pin down a single thing that we want to see in next week’s episode, which is the beginning of the arc. Why? The simple answer to that is that there really is no single thing we want rather than something abstract. We don’t want an episode that is tied together neatly, and features everyone sitting down okay at the end. We want there to be stakes that carry over, and these people challenged like never before.

Do we want to see them all emerge from the rubble? Sure, but the weakest part of “Blue Bloods” is that so many endings are all the same that we really don’t remember an episode a few weeks after they are over. The episodes are entertaining, but they lack something in staying power.
