‘Game of Thrones’ season 5, episode 2 spoilers: Maisie Williams on Arya’s change

The one thing that you do constantly have to remember about “Game of Thrones” is simply this: The show is enormous! There are so many characters on the show that it is impossible to see all of them in a single episode. That’s why we are not surprised that we did not have any Arya Stark in the first episode back; luckily, we know that this is going to change come Sunday night.

Arya is on her way to Braavos, and in addition to getting some new training and a chance at a fresh start, this is also a chance for her to completely make herself over. This means that she’ll be getting the much-discussed makeover you see in the attached photo, and it may also seem like you will get to see Arya … smile? It’s crazy, but this is what Maisie Williams says to Entertainment Weekly:

“We did a scene where Arya throws away her old clothes … That was such a release. It was like, no acting required. It was totally like a next chapter. It was emotional, and so far it’s been absolutely my favorite scene to do. You’ve never seen Arya looking like this, and the way I’m shot is different too. It’s a breath of fresh air. It’s the first time I’ve smiled in Game of Thrones since episode 1, being fed pigeon pie. I’m really looking forward to people seeing me in a new light.”

Granted, we imagine that this smile may be a temporary one. This is not a show where good things tend t last forever. Before we know it, we could see this character in all sorts of peril yet again, trying to claw her way back out of it.
