Is ‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 16, episode 20 new tonight?
For a long time, we insinuated that there was not going to be a long hiatus of “Law & Order: SVU” in April due to there being one while “Empire” was wrapping up, and considering what we tend to think of as the standard episode order for the show. Regrettably, we were wrong, and there is no new installment of the show tonight … or next week either, for that matter.
So when do you have to wait until in order to see Mariska Hargitay, Danny Pino, and the rest of the cast on your TV set again? Think along the lines of Wednesday, April 29, and even when that episode rolls around, it is going to be extremely different than most others. This is when the show is going to show off the third part of the crossover event with “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD”, and it is even going to be airing at a different time to go along with it. Set your clocks accordingly for 10:00 p.m. Eastern, or just start watching at 8:00 and you can see all three parts in a row.
In terms of episode count, it seems that we are seeing the overall order this season brought down to just 23 installments from the typical 24. We imagine that one of the reasons for that is all of the crossovers and extra footage that is being filmed away from the flagship show. Plus, Mariska has to sleep at some point, right? She has already proven herself to be one of the busiest women in TV week in and week out.
As of right now, the finale for season 16 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20.

Love SVU, a decent show, with deep and intelligent stories. I love the entire cast and especially Mariska Hargitay. She is the soul and the heart of SVU. Mariska is beautiful and talented.

It’s time for NBC to go back and ask their show runner for the first 12 seasons of SVU(I forget his name; he left to write “A Gifted Man” which I believe lasted one season) if he wants to come back and be the show runner when Warren Leight leaves after Season 17. NBC has CHICAGO MED and COACH for next season, along with a whole bunch of mini series shows. NBC needs to keep their house in order and show their real fans that they want to keep them by making long range plans to keep their really good shows. Signing everyone on SVU to new contracts ASAP and making plans to keep the show going would be a start.
