Is ‘Revenge’ canceled? ABC promo suggests series finale coming

Well, it seems as though ABC may have finally tipped their cap when it comes to whether or not “Revenge” is coming back for another season after this one … and the news is not good for longtime fans.

At the end of tonight’s new episode “Exposure,” a promo aired highlighting the next four episodes of the show. The twist? It specifically said that these are the “last four episodes,” meaning that we are building up now to a series finale more so than a season finale. There’s no real other way to take this, since the words “this season” were never uttered. This does also add to the significance that the finale for this season / series is entitled “Two Graves.” This is the first time that an episode title has been given two words, and this references back to the series’ earliest mythology.

Still, we’re not sure what to think about the announcement, if this is an announcement at all. We’re just taking it this way because the preview was not exactly coy, and the ratings have not been great. It also helps to make more sense out of tonight being a partial clip show. This was meant to set us up for the final stage of Emily / Amanda’s journey.

We’ll hope to get some more confirmation on this in the days ahead (this is not official by any means), but we’re bummed if the end is near. We thought that there could be a 10-13 episode final season still in the works for “Revenge,” especially since it has been such a solid show for the network over the years and seems to have a strong international following.
