‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 4 preview (PBS): Helen George’s Trixie takes center stage

Trixie -Given that Helen George and her “Call the Midwife” character of Trixie were integral in the season 4 premiere, we can almost definitely understand you feeling somewhat confused at this very moment. Why in the world is she suddenly taking a backseat on the series? The simple answer is that you have so many other characters to tend to at the moment, from Shelagh to Dr. Turner to Patsy to Phyllis to the other nuns. This is a series that is truly an ensemble, and while we in some ways consider her the lead following the exit of Jessica Raine, that may not be entirely the case.

We don’t like to give away too much on upcoming episodes in the right-after-episode previews, but we will tell you that next week’s installment is the most revealing for this particular character so far this year. Here are a pair of fairly-cryptic reasons why.

1. Her relationship with Tom is going to be put to the test as she starts to realize more and more his importance to the church.

2. Trixie has her own demons, and the way that they come out in this episode will be rather surprising … and may even change her arc moving forward in a very drastic way.

We will give you some more news on Saturday right before this episode airs, but it is fair to say that this character will be in a far different place at the end of the episode compared to where she is right now.
