MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5 spoilers: Ashley Rickards on Jenna’s upcoming graduation

Awkward -For all of you out there who are eagerly awaiting the return of “Awkward” to MTV, trust us when we say that we’re right there with you. There is not an official premiere date announced just yet, even though we do imagine that the show will probably be at some point or the late spring or summer. How long can they really make us wait for Jenna’s graduation? It’s already been five years, and there is really only so long this story can last while in high school. The fact that this is the fifth season coming up basically confirms that there will not be much life after high school shown.

Luckily, we are going to get a graduation episode! It may just not be the same sort of graduation episode you have have come to expect. For more on that subject, just take a look at what Ashley Rickards said to MTV, while in the process of promoting her new book entitled “A Real Guide To Really Getting It Together” out in bookstores:

“It’s definitely different than your typical ‘high school graduation’ episode right off the bat. There’s a pretty big surprise concerning Val. Also, it took us two days to film that, and it has never taken us two days to film a sequence. Every cast member was there, 250 extras and, like, it could not have been more complicated. And there will be lots of speeches and lots of dialogue from me, Jillian, Molly — a lot of long stuff. The writers had a field day.”

Hopefully, this is hinting at a happy ending to Val’s story, since she’s been such a mess for so long that she deserves one. We almost see an Oprah Winfrey “you get a happy ending, you get a happy ending” sort of vibe here from the final episodes. While the show can at times be cynical, we feel like they don’t want to end on a sour note.
