‘Last Comic Standing’ video: First look at Anthony Jeselnik, Norm MacDonald

Last Comic Standing -We have made it extremely clear that we are fans of “Last Comic Standing,” probably more so then 95% of the other reality entertainment out there. It’s completely silly, but it is one of the only real chances you get these days to see standup on primetime network TV anymore. Also, there is a real chance that some of the contestants you see on here eventually end up becoming reasonably big names in the comedy circuit. Just ask Todd Glass, Amy Schumer, Doug Benson, or Lavell Crawford. Therefore, it’s actually got a better track record than the majority of the other talent-based reality competitions out there.

The preview below gives you a sense of the new season starting July 22, and there are a few fairly-funny jokes in here. Sure, they are all on fairly predictable subjects like dating, but of course the show isn’t going to get specific when promoting a show to a wide audience.

In case you have not heard, there are some big changes coming to the series this year. Anthony Jeselnik is coming on to be the new host in the place of JB Smoove. Meanwhile, this promo basically confirms for us that Norm MacDonald is replacing Russell Peters. We thought and were worried for a while that there was going to be a four-person panel, which is a little much given that the show is supposed to be all about the comics. While we love Norm, we’re not entirely sure we need judges at all past the first few rounds to tell us what is funny and what’s not. Comedy is largely subjective.
