‘Shameless’ season 5, episode 11 preview: In defense of Ian; Fiona’s flirting

Can you believe that there are only two more episodes left of “Shameless” this season, especially when there is still so much left to resolve in terms of story? The writers definitely have their work cut out for them Sunday night. Then again, so do the Gallaghers given that this crazy family has to figure out a way to ensure that Ian somehow manages to escape his present situation, and not become court-marshaled in the process.

Of course, our quick reaction to the first sneak peek below is that we’re super-thrilled that most of the entire clan was there for him to see him through this interrogation. A little love goes a long way, right? Unfortunately, we still find ourselves too distracted to concentrate on this, given that we are mostly still focused on what these people are going to do to Sammi when they figure out the truth. That’s the real anticipation here; this is not a family you want to mess around with. They are loyal, and they will do what they can to support their own.

In other news … Fiona is still flirting with people, and this now includes Sean. We actually feel like he’s not a terrible human being, and not a source of utter chaos for her like Jimmy. The problem? She already married Gus and cheated on him almost immediately. Fiona has always been reckless when it comes to matters of the heart, but this multiple-love-interest game the show is playing right now is not working 100%. We’d prefer her to just have one completely insane romance than multiple potential ones that are not as fun to follow.

Still, we’re enjoying this season, so much so that we’ll be bummed beyond words to see it end.
