‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Death comes soon for one character

If there has been a consistent knock about “Game of Thrones” over the years, it is that there is a tendency for some of the early episodes in a season to be somewhat lacking in the shock value, especially the premiere. The pilot episode was the last time we were genuinely shocked by a first episode; with that being said, we at least has a big shock take place in episode 2 of last season (specifically the death of Joffrey).

Luckily, it appears as though this trend could be shifting ever so slightly in the fifth season. According to a new report coming in right now from Entertainment Weekly, we are going to potentially see at least one “familiar” character die in the first episode back. This doesn’t sound to us like we are losing someone on the level of an Arya or a Dany, but it could still be someone we know and care about.

While we would be sad about this, let’s be honest here: The show can afford to lose at least a few more faces. We still have an enormous cast, and with the Sand Snakes and Dorne entering the picture, we are about to see it expand yet again. Remember here that we are not even going to be seeing Bran on the show this season, as he is at present off with the Children and Hodor.

Hopefully, this episode sets a precedent for a crazy run of episodes to come the rest of the season. We’ll just have to see what happens.
