‘The Flash’ spoilers: Mark Hamill discusses bringing Trickster back

Hamill -It was many decades ago that Mark Hamill first came on “The Flash” in the role of the Trickster. Of course, that was the original CBS series starring John Wesley Shipp, and the new version of the series with Grant Gustin is not in the same canon. With that being said, this show still is doing a great job of paying tribute to that show, whether it be casting Shipp as Henry Allen or bringing back Mark Hamill in a role very similar to his original Trickster villain. There is going to be a new generation of his character, but he will still be causing some chaos behind bars.

So what got him so involved in the new CW series? Speaking to reporters (per KSiteTV) following a screening, Hamill explained that getting back to the show was a process that started with his daughter:

“When this version came on, my daughter Chelsea is a big fan, and I watched it from the very first episode … In fact, I even thought, since they were doing Weather Wizard and various other Rogues’ Gallery characters, I wondered if they were going to do the Trickster. And then, again, I got a call from my business people saying ‘they want you to do something on The Flash.’ And I was thinking, you know, like a colleague of John Wesley Shipp’s; a professor… something age-appropriate. I’m not getting back into that one-piece jumpsuit; the spandex deal. So, I said ‘well, who do they want me to play?’ and when they said The Trickster, I just couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t figure out how that could be, unless it’s some kind of weird time travel episode. I don’t know. I was very skeptical, but then I called Andrew [Kreisberg].”

Obviously, we’d love to see as much Hamill as possible, but we are also very well-aware that he is not the sort of actor with a free schedule. We’re thrilled just to get one episode of him, and see what he brings to the table for it.
