‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2, episode 13 review: Villains (and traitors?) galore
Given the sort of precarious position that many of our characters were in going into “Agents of SHIELD” Tuesday night, you would really think that there would be a better sense of unity going on for some of the characters. Instead, what we had on Tuesday night’s installment was an hour of mostly chaos, with a few surprises thrown in here, as well.
For one, we started to understand just how desperate Skye is to not unleash her powers: She is willing to focus them inward, even to the point where she breaks dozens of bones in her body. It’s a very good thing that Simmons is around to lend a helping hand here! Her injuries came near the end of a pretty brutal battle sequence, one directed by her own feature and featuring Drea de Matteo and others. How about some of the fight scenes here? Great choreography, especially for Drea vs. Adrianne Palicki.
Also tonight, we figured out that in some ways, the plans to get a new SHIELD together are accelerating, plus happening right under Coulson’s nose. This is not a particularly easy thing for him to handle, but he better start to get use to the idea that there are some out there who do not want him leading the charge anymore, and are going to do almost everything in their power in sure that he loses grasp on what he has.
While it feels almost like an afterthought at this point, kudos to Blair Underwood for giving a heck of a great performance tonight as May’s ex, and a man who did his best to help Skye out. Hopefully, this will not be the end of him on the show. Grade: B.

I think it’s all turning into a bit of a mess, and this is what is starting to bother me about the MCU especially since the return of Spider-Man; as it sprawls it is in danger of losing focus and collapsing. I think I’m the only person in the world who liked this show during season 1 and it was a lighter, “monster of the week” type thing, but it’s all in danger of turning into too much brain work.
I’m also not entirely clear why razor fingernails counts as a superpower. Can’t you get the same effect with a pair of gloves with razors attached? They were a bit of a weak group of supervillains really; nerd bloke, ugly strong bloke, bloke who gets unnecessarily angry and razor blade bag lady. Was CGI Jaw Man meant to be Black Bolt?
Why didn’t SHIELD just cut her blades off, anyway?
