‘Dancing with the Stars’ 20 review: Noah Galloway, Rumer Willis, Suzanne Somers perform for first time

Dancing with the Stars -Tonight, the “Dancing with the Stars” premiere was officially upon us! We were actually really excited for this season, even more than we have been for some past installments … though we’re not sure why. Maybe it was just seeing a few pros? We cannot say that we were invested in all of them equally.

We’re not sure that we’re going to be doing full reviews of every show this season, but with it being the 10th anniversary, this seemed like a good way to start things off. We’re going to give you some more impressions of the performers as the night goes on, so be sure to check back soon for more. These also include the scores at the end of each performance. It’s nice to see Len Goodman back in a more permanent capacity this season!

Willow Shields and Mark Ballas – Cute introduction, but we’re still not sure about having a 14-year old in this competition. We just feel like there are going to be many moments this season where we’re uncomfortable, such as the song choice tonight. Score: 24.

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson – Dare we say that this was actually significantly better than we expected it would be going in? We have to be honest here when we say that we were expecting bad footwork and so much more from the shark, who has virtually no experience in the field. He was surprising good, energetic, and entertaining. Score: 28.

Riker Lynch and Allison Holker – He’s young, a rock star, and a distant relative of the Hough family. Of course, he was going to be good at this. The performance had a definite rock vibe to it, and there weren’t too many enormous flaws. Score: 31.

Charlotte McKinney and Keo Motsepe – We didn’t know much about Charlotte before this season, but we really wanted Keo to do well. She wasn’t exactly great in this performance. Her timing was off, and it felt like she got lost a few times. Not great in Keo’s hopes to last longer than a week. Score: 22.

Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev – Patti is a living legend, and she may at times get higher scores because of it. With that being said, she was awfully elegant in this first appearance. Score: 25.

Chris Soules and Witney Carson – This was better than we expected! Chris is not going to be Fred Astaire anytime soon, but he had fun and really went for it. Also, we saw so much of Whitney Bischoff in the audience, she practically was the partner. Score: 26.

Michael Sam and Peta Murgatroyd – The football star may not have the best footwork of all time, but he has a ton of potential out there if he can last long enough. Our biggest concern for him is that the football starts to have done well on the show are the ones who have specific team loyalty. Score: 26.

Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough – A lovely foxtrot to start things off. Obviously, we knew that she would be really good, but the funny thing is that this far from her best. She’ll get so much better as time passes. Score: 30.

Redfoo and Emma Slater – Poor Emma. She always gets the clumsy people. Redfoo has so many bad dance habits it’s not even funny. Also, we don’t know if he is ever going to drop the shtick. Score: 22.

Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess – This was emotional, and more than we expected. There was just something so fascinating about watching the two dance. The problem they have moving forward is figuring out if they can capture this magic again. That will be challenging. Score: 26.

Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani – Tony really went out of his way to make this fun. It was silly, nostalgic, and probably a great start to her journey. The routine alone makes this memorable. Score: 25.

Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy – We have a contender! The best performance of the night by far, and Rumer may be picking up some big fans in the blink of an eye. Score: 32.
