‘2 Broke Girls’ renewed for season 5, joins ‘Mom’ and ‘Mike & Molly’ with a secure future

The latest -We figured that it was only a matter of time before “2 Broke Girls” was handed a renewal after “Mom” and “Mike & Molly” each got the same exact thing. Today, it’s official: All three shows are coming back for more.

This will be the fifth season coming up for the Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs sitcom, which has drawn a solid audience at 8:00 p.m. Eastern this year. While it is not the demo warrior that “How I Met Your Mother” was, it does fare well in total viewers and is just starting to enter syndication this fall on TBS. This is a move that helped to make “The Big Bang Theory” into a ratings monster; we don’t envision the same results here, but this increased awareness for the show certainly should help it to a certain extent.

With this news, CBS has more or less set in stone its returning comedy lineup for the fall. These three shows plus “The Big Bang Theory” are all officially going to be coming back. Eventually, we anticipate “The Odd Couple” also getting a renewal, which brings the total to five. This means that there would still be at least room for one new comedy in the fall, provided that CBS sticks to their current plan of giving us six half-hours to enjoy through the end of the fall and the spring.

As for how long a show like “2 Broke Girls” could last, we imagine that they are at least under contract through six seasons. There’s no reason to believe that the show would end before then.
