‘Gotham’ spoilers: Is Jada Pinkett Smith leaving before season 2?

Jada Pinkett Smith has just dropped a bombshell, and admittedly, it’s one that we wish that she had not dropped at all.

In a new appearance Friday on “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” the actress revealed that more than likely, she is not going to be returning to “Gotham” in her role as Fish Mooney. This is a part she has played since the pilot, and she’s had a chance to do some really crazy stuff. She’s been violent, flirtatious, and at one point recently even lost an eye. It’s the sort of crazy stuff that many actors ultimately wish to get a chance to do.

As she explained in the interview, though, this does not appear to be some sort of decision that was just made recently. As a matter of fact, she claims that this was the plan for her from almost the very beginning:

“I don’t think [I’ll be back]. I signed for a year and the year is up … But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.”

What we don’t get for the time being is this: Why in the world do you even need to say that you’re leaving the show now? What do we gain from finding out this information now versus the finale of the show? We know are going to be expected the character either to be killed off or to leave before the end of the series; while we almost expected this to happen in a way, we didn’t really want to know about it beforehand.
