‘Suits’ season 4, episode 15 review: Sarah Rafferty shines in huge Donna / Harvey episode

Intent -Typically, Donna is the beacon of light on “Suits.” She is the course of comic relief, of wit, and a possible love interest for Harvey. Her friendship with Louis Litt (as evidenced in the picture attached here) makes her even more endearing. We’ve always loved the character, but tonight, we found a way to love her even more.

Tonight’s episode may be the best episode for Sarah Rafferty to date, brought on in part by some stellar writing that put her at the center of everything. Evan Smith’s campaign to wage war on her, basically as the scapegoat for the entire firm, went to the District Attorney’s Office. From there, it felt like the DA was really just trying to laugh in Harvey’s face, taking her to court for intent to commit fraud. This never happens, and yet, it happens here. Donna faced the possibility of 3-5 years in prison, and Rafferty killed it as you saw her start to unravel. She questioned everything, expressed her frustration at Harvey for his attitude, and even suggested that she went to Louis instead.

After Harvey realized that this case was about to go to trial, he went into overdrive in order to try to clear her name … even if it meant more trouble for himself, and potentially even charges. He found a way to go back at Evan Smith, using a fall guy for an accident in order to ensure that she is taken down, and she convinces the witness in Donna’s case to stand down.

Basically, this was obstruction of juice, and it shows the complicated moral compass of Harvey Specter. He was willing to do everything to protect Donna, even risk himself. It was a somewhat romantic move for an unromantic guy. Speaking of romance, he said “I love you” to her! While they didn’t kiss, the look on her face said it all. There was heartbreak elsewhere in this episode, as Jessica saw Jeff Malone tender his resignation.

“Intent” ultimately continues what is an amazing streak for this show in the back half of season 4. It was almost an emotional roller coaster, but we were thrilled to be along for the ride almost from start to finish. Grade: A.
