‘American Idol XIV’ review: Did Shi Scott, Riley Bria, Savion Wright make top 12?

American Idol -Well, the field is finally set for “American Idol XIV” and the live rounds: We know the entire roster of people performing! That is definitely an exciting proposition, and it’s going to be a whole lot of fun to see what happens when the

We started this episode with the “shocking” news that Hollywood Anderson was cut. This is probably the biggest stunner given his original audition, but his struggles during Hollywood Week were too much for him to overcome. The rest of this article, we’re focusing mostly on the artists who made it through to the next round.

Joey Cook – We love her creativity. We worry about her flubs during Hollywood Week. We like it still that she’s in the top 24, since hopefully she can inject something into that round we haven’t seen before.

Katherine Winston – Great House of Blues performance from Katherine! Now, she has to figure out how to be a little more memorable. That is the biggest thing hurting her as a contender right now.

Alexis Gomez – After hearing the sing-off yesterday, we feel pretty comfortable with crowning Alexis the best female country singer in the competition right now. From here on out, choosing the right songs is going to be the most important thing for her to do.

Quentin Alexander – Major props on the song choice. We’re not sure how many people out there are even aware of Foxes aside of that “Clarity” song with the guest vocals. He is like the male Joey in many ways: Super-fashionable and creative.

Savion Wright – Yes! Savion makes it through this year after having the emotional turmoil of Hollywood Week last season. The guy really deserves this chance.

Mark Andrew – Do we like Mark’s voice a ton? Sure, but we worry that he is yet another in a long line of male pop-rock singers with raspy voices. We’ve heard most of what he does before.

Trevor Douglas – He is a total mixed bag. He’s a fun performer, and a distinct personality. He’s not the best singer of the bunch, so he is going to have to come up with innovative ways to make up for that.

Nick Fradiani – In his final year of eligibility, Nick gets in! Given that he’s one of our favorites, this is an easy one to celebrate. His “In Your Eyes” is one of our favorite auditions.

Sarina-Joi Crowe – After four kicks at the can on this show, she has finally managed to break it through! This is almost a Candice Glover situation; she deserved to be in here in past years, but we’re glad that this is her chance.

Qaasim Middleton – We don’t love him as much as some of the other contestants this season, but personality-wise, we understand why he’s made it through.

Riley Bria – Right choice by the judges to make him a finalist. He’s the only male country star, and it does feel like he has the most potential to go up there and rock out.

Shi Scott – We like that Shi is a part of the top 24, but was there any way that we could get Jelly Joseph in there, too? Her omission from the top 24 may be the most criminal of any person in the competition. People will revolt! Still, we’re happy for Shi.
