‘Extant’ season 2 spoilers: Jeffrey Dean Morgan cast as new regular

If you remember, CBS made a pretty surprising decision to many in renewing the Halle Berry series “Extant” for a second season. It was a show that was not exactly setting the world on fire in the ratings, even though you did have a very notable star attached in the lead role, and it aired on a network typically known for having pretty high expectations.

What we also know about “Extant” is that recently, the show basically cut a big chunk of their cast as the show moved into a new creative direction. This was intriguing, and we assumed as a result of this that we were going to be seeing the arrival of some more new faces.

Now, we know who at least one of these particular faces is. Sources confirm that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to be a series regular on the second season of the show, and will be playing the part of J.D. Richter. He is a guy who is pretty capable of almost anything, given that he is a mercenary, he is a great communicator, and is very good at getting almost any woman that he wants. Morgan is mostly well-known these days for “Magic City,” which was a very strong series on Starz for two years until its cancellation.

In keeping “Extant” going, and also bringing Morgan on board, what we are seeing from the network right now is a belief that the concept can work. Because of that, they are probably a little more patient, and eager to try a few new things and see what works and what doesn’t.
